Alpha Lipoic Acid 25 mg - Hypoallergenic |
Kirkman’s Alpha Lipoic Acid is a powerful and versatile antioxidant that helps protect the body against free radical damage and, as a result, is a protector of many types of cells and tissues. It also helps increase glutathione production, which helps in detoxification processes in the body.
This is a hypoallergenic formulation specially designed for individuals with special requirements and sensitivities. Each capsule contains 25 mg of alpha lipoic acid.
Alpha lipoic acid is a disulfide compound also known as thioctic acid. Lipoic Acid is a unique antioxidant in that it is both fat- and water-soluble. Other well-known antioxidants can only function within their soluble media, such as vitamin E in fatty membranes of cells and vitamin C in watery portions of cells. Because of its dual solubility, lipoic acid can function in both fatty and aqueous phases of the cell. This is significant and makes lipoic acid a complete antioxidant capable of defending against a wide variety of invading free radicals.
Alpha lipoic acid has both sulfur atoms and carboxyl groups in its chemical structure, making it a very reactive compound. Alpha lipoic acid is converted into the reduced form, dihydrolipoic acid, inside of cells, and dihydrolipoic acid possesses two sulfhydryl groups.
Alpha lipoic acid is found naturally in foods such as spinach, broccoli, tomato, liver, heart and animal muscle tissue. Its bioavailability from food may be limited, however, because it is bound to a protein called "lipoyllysine.” Preliminary research suggests that the lipoic acid found in supplements may be more biologically active than lipoic acid bound to this protein in food. Kirkman’s Alpha Lipoic Acid capsules can be swallowed or the contents of the capsules mixed in food or beverages.
It is important to use a high quality lipoic acid to get the desired effects. There is a lot of poor quality product available in the United States, which may not be pure or fully potent, so it is important to trust your supplier of lipoic acid to deliver high product quality. Buffered Magnesium Glycinate® |
Kirkman® offers Buffered Magnesium Glycinate® capsules in a hypoallergenic formulation for individuals with special dietary requirements and sensitivities. Magnesium glycinate is a form of magnesium that is easier to digest and absorb than some other forms of magnesium.
This product is also part of our Bio-Max Series that uses forms of nutrients that have clinically proven to be among the best absorbed and most highly bioavailable. Our capsules are buffered, which means that they are resistant to pH changes when in solution, making them less reactive and less likely to irritate the digestive tract. Increased absorption capacity may also result.
Kirkman® uses magnesium glycinate exclusively from Albion Labs, Inc. of Clearfield, Utah, a leader in the manufacture of mineral chelates. The product, also known as Albion® Magnesium Amino Acid Chelate, has been evaluated as superior to other forms of mineral salts in both animal and human bioavailability studies. Buffered Vitamin C Powder |
Kirkman® developed our buffered Vitamin C product in response to the need for a higher daily dose of vitamin C (one to three grams) that physicians were recommending to our customers.
At the time, Kirkman® offered two forms of vitamin C — our popular chewable tablets and hypoallergenic capsules. These are dosed at 250 mg., but for customers who needed a higher dose, these products may have been impractical or inconvenient.
Kirkman's Buffered Vitamin C Flavored Powder offers 1100 mg (1.1 gm) in each recommed serving size of ¼ teaspoon. It is easy to administer and is great tasting. Our Buffered Vitamin C Powder is formulated with sodium, potassium and magnesium ascorbates to produce a buffered, acid balanced product. This product is very gentle on the stomach because the normal high acidity of ascorbic acid is counteracted by the ascorbates. A small amount of sucralose and natural passion fruit is added to make the product taste great when dissolved in water or juice.
Vitamin C is the most popular vitamin supplement in the United States. The human body does not manufacture its own vitamin C, therefore dietary sources and supplementation must be relied on to prevent deficiency.

Kirkman® offers calcium capsules with and without vitamin D at the request of physicians. Our Calcium with vitamin D capsule is hypoallergenic and does not contain additives. This product is part of our Bio-Max series that uses forms of nutrients that have clinically proven to be among the best absorbed and most highly bio-available.
Our calcium capsules utilize calcium bis-glycinate amino acid chelate, which has been demonstrated to have superior absorption qualities. This form of calcium is not used in our powders because it has an unpleasant taste. For this reason, we suggest that the capsule be swallowed whole and not opened to mix with food.
